Rehearsals

Finding a rehearsal space seemed to have been providential. All About Ballroom is a dance studio in Lawrenceville that is literally within 5 minutes drive of my house, making it very convenient. Out of all the local businesses I contacted Kathy was the only one that got back to me. I love the space, it is a complete open room with mirrors on the walls, and hardwood flooring. It has been an ideal space for me as I've been rehearsing there for a few hours every Thursday, getting ready for Shine, practicing my modeling, acting and singing (with a bit of dancing). It has also been affordable, and I've had the entire space to myself.

There are a few things that I've learned about rehearsal. It is important to do it whether you feel like it or not. Take this past Thursday, I was sleepy, it was cold and rainy outside, and I would have rather staid in my warm comfy bed. But then, I knew I needed to go rehearse, and that every rehearsal no matter how crappy I feel, is worth it. There were multiple times I wanted to quit during rehearsal, but in those times I would give my self mini goals, like just sing this song 5 more times, or say this monologue 5 more times. These mini goals made me feel like I was working towards something, and before I knew it, I had been rehearsing for 3 hours already! What I learned about myself during the rehearsal process is that I can be professional and do this for a living, even when I feel like crawling into a cave and hibernating for the winter.

There are other times though, that I can't wait to get to rehearsal, because I've got something that I want to work on. During those times, rehearsal is over too soon, and I wish I could keep going. But, I usually discipline myself to take a break, because there is something like over doing it as well.

So here's the hard truth... if you want to be an actor, singer, model, (or for that matter whatever your chosen profession is) you need to show up on your good days and your ... not so good days. Only when you're able to do that with a smile on your face, have you found the thing that you love to do.
