Today I had the privilege to visit with some great friends Jim and Marcia Southard at Third Millennium Ministries in Orlando Florida. Third Mill's motto is... "Biblical Education. For the World. For Free." and they strive to live up to this every single day. Third Mill is a publisher of Christian literature using a variety of print, video, and animated formats to train up pastors all over the world, who cannot afford to attend a traditional seminary college. Jim serves as the Production Studio Manager. I had the chance to tour their facility and see some of the great up coming projects they have lined up.
We were having a great time hanging out, and then Third Mill's president, Dr. Richard Pratt, joined in on the conversation. We talked at length about gaming and how it can be used in education, a topic that I've been researching for a few years. It was a great time to just sit and visit, although I know my brain was being picked... but then I'm used to that happening. People hear I have a PhD, and usually they are either intimidated by the fact (until they get to know me) or we have a super great time talking. Today was the latter, and I had an awesome time just chatting, and giving some advise and sharing ideas about how we could make Third Mills material more interactive. I ended up spending over 3 hours there, but it was time well worth it. As you can see from the photo, I was the shortest person in the room.
What strikes me most about Third Mill.... their overwhelming generosity to ensure that this educational material is FREE! I've seen too many companies or non-profits and other such organizations wanting to make a buck off of the customer, that it's refreshing to find a group who sincerely wants their materials to be free. Now, I know you're thinking, yes but that means they probably just have a ton of adds squished in there... and you would be absolutely wrong. There is no advertisement in any of their materials, so no sitting through boring adds that have no application to your life.
So you ask, how do they survive? They work purely on donations from people like me and you, coming along side of them and being part of their ministry. I'd like to encourage you to go check out their website, whether it be to look at the materials and study along with them, or whether to give to the ministry. You will be blessed as I have, to be part of this ministry.
